94 years and we’re just getting started.
Walk in and you feel it. Musicians. Artists who got a first break on our stage. Gold fiends. Drinkers. We’re an institution. A kind of freak institution all alone on the corner of 4th and Bryant. With a mermaid and a ship’s stern. And a small, wooden stage where you can watch the singer’s eyes.
We opened in 1908. Served beer, cocktails, and stories to longshoremen, gangsters, cheap-jacks. Bent, old Utah stories. Long, winding odes. Joe DiMaggio was here. PJ Harvey. Circus stars.

Our soulful, fateful stage is a legend in SF. Live music every night. Alt country. Rock. Folk. Bluegrass. Sturm und twang. Punk. Ancestors of Nick Drake. A friendly open mic. Spoken word. And a policy against attitude.
Our friendly, down-home food is American. Quick. Cheap. With humanely farmed meats and pleasurable vegetables.

Come in day or night. Eat. Sketch. Carouse. Tell us your Utah story. Or sit quiet. Pretend you’re a sailor. Whatever. Just come on with us. We’ve got a good ways to go yet.
